Laser Eye Surgery
(No Touch Laser)

Traditional laser treatments for correcting vision have been in use for many years, but they involve physical contact with the eye, which can cause anxiety in patients. However, the TransPRK technique, also known as the No Touch Laser, eliminates this concern. This method does not require any contact with the laser device, which means patients can rest assured that there will be no physical contact with their eyes. Instead, the patient only needs to focus on a distant light source for a few seconds, and the treatment will be completed without any discomfort or worry.

TransPRK (No Touch Laser)
Procedures

In Turkey, the No Touch Laser Eye Surgery is a popular laser eye procedure, also known as Trans PRK. This method is suitable for patients who have near and distance vision problems and does not require any physical contact with the eye during the operation. The procedure begins by applying numbing eye drops, and it lasts for about 50 seconds to 1 minute. It is important to note that Trans PRK is not classified as a surgery since it is performed without touching the eye.

Patients who have undergone cataract surgery or have a high risk of retinal tears may also qualify for this treatment, provided that their eye structure is suitable. In addition, Trans PRK can also be applied to patients with thin or steep corneas. This procedure can correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, and it can be an excellent option for patients with high refractive errors, as indicated by corneal topography test results.

The benefits of Trans PRK are numerous, including no sharp tools or devices touching the eye during the procedure. Patients can have both eyes treated in a single session, and there is no removal of any corneal layers. After the laser vision correction, patients can leave wearing protective glasses. The risk of dry eye syndrome is also minimal, as there is no contact with the eyes during the procedure.

In summary, Trans PRK is a safe and effective alternative to traditional laser eye surgery that eliminates the need for any physical contact with the eye. This procedure can be performed on patients with various vision problems, including those who have had previous eye surgeries or have thin corneas. The benefits of this method include minimal risk of complications, quick recovery time, and improved vision without the use of glasses or contact lenses.

Step 1

Numbing Eye Drops

The first step in a LASIK vision procedure is to apply numbing eye drops. This ensures that the small laser incisions cannot be felt.

Step 2

Creating The Flap

To access the cornea, the surgeon creates a thin flap with a precision instrument. This flap in the cornea is created to keep a buffer between the part of the cornea that will need to heal and outside debris and bacteria.

Step 3

Reshaping The Cornea

After the flap is created, your surgeon will use an excimer laser to reshape your cornea. This is done by removing small amounts of tissue from your cornea. The new shape of the cornea allows different refractions to occur, thus resulting in clear vision.

Step 4

Sealing The Corneal Flap

Once your surgeon has reshaped your cornea, the flap previously created is sealed. This thin flap will quickly begin to heal just hours after surgery.

Step 5

Wait 24 Hours

After surgery, you will be given sunglasses to shield your sensitive eyes from light. You will need someone to drive you home after your procedure. While it will take some time for your eyes to adjust to the light, your recovery period is quick and simple. Within 24 hours or less, you will be ready to resume everyday activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Laser Vision Correction suitable for everyone?

Laser Vision Correction can be performed on individuals over the age of 18 with stable prescription and healthy eyes. Pregnant or breastfeeding women will have to wait. To find out if you’re a suitable candidate for laser eye surgery, you can schedule a consultation with UK Turkey Health.

During the consultation, a specialist will examine your eyes and review your optometrist referral and prescription, preferably no more than 6 or 12 months old, to pre-screen your suitability for laser vision correction.

We will explain how you can benefit from laser surgery and discuss the best options for you. Soft contact lens wearers should remove their lenses three days before the consultation. The laser assessment will be bulk billed if you bring a referral from your optometrist.

How safe is Laser Eye Surgery?

Experienced UK Turkey Health eye surgeons perform laser eye surgery safely. While any laser or surgical procedure carries risks, serious or long-term complications are rare. Most complications can be treated with eye drops or a repeat laser eye surgery procedure known as an enhancement, which we offer for free within the first five years following your initial procedure.

You are more likely to get into a car accident on your way to work than to experience a serious complication from laser eye surgery.

What Are Some Potential Risks Of Laser Eye Surgery?

At UK Turkey Health Clinic, we prioritize your eye safety and do not take any unnecessary risks. We will only perform laser eye surgery if we are confident that it can improve your vision.

While most patients recover significantly by the day of their first post-operative appointment, some may experience side effects such as delayed healing, dry eye, glare, haloes or increased light sensitivity.

These side effects usually subside within three months after surgery, although it may take longer in some cases. However, 97 percent of our patients have 20/20 or better vision three months after laser eye surgery.

The specific risks of laser eye surgery in your case will be discussed during your free laser eye surgery assessment.

Will I need glasses after Laser Eye Treatment?

Most patients will no longer need glasses after Laser Eye Treatment. The final outcome depends on the severity of short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism. During your initial consultation, we will discuss expectations and likely outcomes.

When can I go back to work after laser eye surgery?

We recommend taking 4-5 days off work to ensure adequate healing occurs after Laser Eye Surgery.

Will I still need reading glasses after mid-40s?

Laser Eye Surgery cannot address the need for reading glasses, which is a natural process of aging called Presbyopia.

However, we can plan a monovision treatment strategy for your laser eye surgery, leaving your non-dominant eye for reading, thus reducing or eliminating the need for spectacles.

Can I have laser eye surgery if I have dry eyes?

Managing and addressing the underlying cause of dry eyes before surgery can ensure that you are a suitable candidate for Laser Eye Surgery. Overuse of contact lenses is one of the common causes of dry eyes.

Discontinuing contact lens use for a while can help resolve dryness.
